Black Hat!
Posted by admin, under ExploitsA black hat (also called a cracker or Darkside hacker) is a malicious or criminal hacker. This term is seldom used outside of the security industry and by some modern programmers. The general public uses the term hacker to refer to the same thing. In computer jargon the meaning of “hacker” can be much broader. The name comes from the opposite of White Hat hackers.
Usually a Black Hat is a person who uses their knowledge of vulnerabilities and exploits for private gain, rather than revealing them either to the general public or the manufacturer for correction. Many Black Hats promote individual freedom and accessibility over privacy and security[citation needed]. Black Hats may seek to expand holes in systems; any attempts made to patch software are generally done to prevent others from also compromising a system they have already obtained secure control over. A Black Hat hacker may have access to 0-day exploits (private software that exploits security vulnerabilities; 0-day exploits have not been distributed to the public). In the most extreme cases, Black Hats may work to cause damage maliciously, and/or make threats to do so as blackmail.
Black-hat hacking is the act of compromising the security of a system without permission from an authorized party, usually with the intent of accessing computers connected to the network (the somewhat similar activity of defeating copy prevention devices in software - which may or may not be legal depending on the laws of the given country - is actually software cracking). The term cracker was coined by Richard Stallman to provide an alternative to using the existing word hacker for this meaning. Use of the term “cracker” is mostly limited (as is “black hat”) to some areas of the computer and security field and even there is considered controversial. A definition of a group that calls themselves hackers refers to “a group that consists of skilled computer enthusiasts”. The other, and more common usage, refers to those who attempt to gain unauthorized access to computer systems. Many members of the first group attempt to convince people that intruders should be called crackers rather than hackers, but the common usage remains ingrained.
Techniques for breaking into systems can involve advanced programming skills and social engineering, but more commonly will simply be the use of semi-automatic software, developed by others - often without understanding how the software itself works. Crackers who rely on the latter technique are often referred to as script kiddies. Common software weaknesses exploited include buffer overflow, integer overflow, memory corruption, format string attacks, race conditions, cross-site scripting, cross-site request forgery, code injection and SQL injection bugs.
The reference to colored hats comes from Hollywood’s use of hats in old black-and-white Western movies to help an audience differentiate between the good guys (white hats) and the bad guys (black hats). The ‘hat’ terms do not fall under common use. Even inside the computing field they are very controversial.
A grey hat commonly refers to a hacker who releases information about any exploits or security holes they find openly to the public. They do so without concern for how the information is used in the end (whether for patching or exploiting).

Carling Cup Second Round vs West Bromwich Albion – lost 4-1.
Football League Trophy Northern Section Quarter Final vs Kidderminster Harriers (a) – lost 2-1.
Top Goal Scorer 2005/06: Dean Windass (striker) – 20 goals.
Players In

Players Out
Lewis Emanuel (Luton Town – Free), Jake Wright (Halifax Town – Free), Owen Morrison (Released), Danny Cadamarteri (Released), Lee Crooks (Released), Andy Cooke (Released), Kevin Sanasy (Released), Danny Forrest (Released).
Bradford City have established themselves as a solid mid table League One club following their problems with administration stemming from their relegation from the Premier League over five years ago.
Much of their limited success last season was down to evergreen striker Dean Windass, who bagged 20 goals at the ripe old age of 36. Such were his goal scoring exploits, he was even linked with a move to Premiership new boys Wigan Athletic last season.
Windass will be 37 during this campaign so Bradford have signed Manchester United youngster Eddie Johnson as a possible long term replacement. The 21 year old striker was also wanted by Crewe Alexandra, following a loan spell at Gresty Road last season, but signed a two year contract at Valley Parade. Johnson also spent time on loan in the Championship with Coventry City during the 2004/05 season.
However, Johnson damaged ankle ligaments during a pre season friendly against Boston United and will miss the first month of the new season, while left back Lewis Emanuel’s departure to Luton Town leaves manager Colin Todd short in that position. Todd bolstered his defence with the signing of out of contract Darlington defender Matt Clarke. The former Halifax Town centre back has been brought in to replace Jamaica defender Damion Stewart who left the club to join Queens Park Rangers at the end of the season.
Bradford also cancelled the contract of midfielder Bobby Petta to allow him to join Australian league outfit Adelaide United. Petta began his career at Feyenoord, before joining Ipswich Town and then Celtic.
Verdict
Bradford City have finished in eleventh place for the last two seasons and nothing suggests that will improve this time around. Much will depend on whether Dean Windass can keep going and whether Eddie Johnson can score goals at this level.
Review Of The Reality Series Dog The Bounty Hunter
Posted by admin, under ExploitsOne of A&E’s most popular reality shows is Dog the Bounty Hunter, featuring real life bounty hunter Duane “Dog” Chapman. The show has an interesting beginning, spinning off of an original television appearance on an A & E network special “Take this Job,” a program about people with unusual occupations.
The response to the husband and wife team, Dog Chapman and his up until recently common-law wife Beth Smith (Chapman and Smith were recently married in a 2006 Hawaiian ceremony), was unexpected and prompted A & E to develop a series about the Chapman family and their bond business, Da Kine Bail Bonds, located on the islands of Oahu, Maui and the Big Island.
Dog makes for a sensational reality figure, bearing prison tattoos, dressing in outlaw garb, cowboy boots, and sporting a bleached out mullet accessorized by tribal beads. In fact, the entire bounty hunting crew, including Dog and his life and business partner Beth, are similarly decked out in arm bands, mullets, leather and tattoos, and all have a mace can strapped to their side. The crew is populated by a revolving door of Dog’s relatives and children (he was twelve, including two with Beth), but usually features his sons Leland and Duane Jr., and his brother Tim “Youngblood” Chapman. Dog’s nephew, Justin Bihag, appeared in the first season and Dog’s daughter, Lysa, appeared in season three.
The show chronicles the family exploits, including cowboy boot shopping, trips to the beach, and a bevy of miscellaneous activities like parades, award shows, and talent contests. There are frequent innuendos to the love life of Dog and Beth, undoubtedly brought about by Beth’s ultra form fitting and revealing clothing choices.
Interestingly enough, Dog and crew are responsible for capturing over 6,000 bail jumpers and criminals. One of his most high profile cases was the takedown of the Max Factor cosmetics heir Andrew Luster in Mexico. Luster was later transported to the US on a warrant for several rapes and imprisoned.
The theme song of the show is called “Dog” and is sung by Ozzy Osbourne. Viewers enjoy seeing the softer side of Dog emerge, evidenced by his respectful treatment of even the worst criminals. Dog reflects on his own past as an ex-con and believes in giving his captures a second chance at a decent and law abiding life.
Is Your Company Data Secure? | Blackberry Hacks Are Here
Posted by admin, under ExploitsThere’s a new route into your company’s secure data. It’s the Blackberry PDA. A hacking program has been developed which exploits the relationship between the Blackberry itself, a company’s internal server and the network connection to which both are attached. The hacking program works because the data tunnel between the Blackberry and the server is encrypted. Intrusions can’t be detected because the protective systems, such as firewalls, exist at the perimeter of the network. This begs the question of all business owners whose employees use a Blackberry: Is your company data secure?
The hacking technique is successful because there are very few companies equipped to detect and intrusion from the inside of the network. Another reason for hacking success is the fact that companies don’t see the Blackberry as a potential attack vector. The Blackberry is not your normal handheld device. It’s a continuously running code machine that’s always on and always connected to your internal network. It has constant direct access to whatever you give it access to and most company structures allow complete access to the internal network for their employees who use Blackberries.
BBProxy is the name of the Blackberry hacking program. It can be loaded on the Blackberry either physically or via e-mail as a Trojan horse. Once loaded, the Blackberry will call back to the hacker’s system and open communication channels between the hacker and the internal network of the company. This process runs in the background behind the safety of the company’s firewall scanning for hosts with vulnerabilities in security and is generally undetected.
Recently, an ad on eBay sold a Blackberry “AS IS” for approximately $15.00. While the device didn’t come with a cable, synching station, software or manual, it did come with something far more valuable. This Blackberry came with a stockpile of corporate data all there for anyone to read as soon as the device was turned on. Many employees are insufficiently trained concerning security issues for the electronic devices they use on a daily basis.
Company data is stored as attachements on a server, rather than the Blackberry itself, so if a device is ever lost or misplaced someone could easily read sensitive documents. The Blackberry lacks encryption capabilities and relies instead on users locking the device with a password. Unfortunately, anyone with hacking abilities could discover the password and let themselves into the network.
The beauty of the Blackberry is that it’s a do it yourself type of device. It basically allows you to take your office with you wherever you go and not be caught unprepared or without the correct documents of a given meeting. However, for individuals and companies who handle and funnel much of their business dealings through these wonderfully useful devices, both internal and external server security must be taken into account.
