Google’s Online Feed Reader Application

Nothing is more frustrating than being inundated with information from the blogging community when you are clueless as how to manage all these content especially the ones you are interested in. In this regard, Google’s online feed reader application, Google Reader, can be of great help. Google Reader will keep track of all these fresh contents (feeds) making it easier to keep up with your ever-increasing list of contents from across the blogosphere.

Feeds, Feed Readers - Terms You Should Know

One way to manage blog updates is through the use of feeds. Feeds are small files just like web pages. Blogs have links or these orange buttons labeled XML, RSS or Atom. All these are feed formats. They let you gather updates from a wide variety of blogs and display these fresh updates all in one place as they come in. This feature is referred to as syndication, aggregation or simply subscribing. Most blog publishers use RSS format which stands for Really Simple Syndication format.

The best way to subscribe to feeds is to use a feed reader. A feed reader is sometimes called a news reader, news aggregator, blog reader, RSS reader or RSS client. A feed reader is a type of software or program that retrieves syndicated content supplied in the form of feed published by blogs. A feed reader maintains a list of blogs you are subscribed to, check them for updates at your determined intervals and displays these contents in a readable format. There are basically two types of feed readers - application-based and web-based.

Application-based feed readers or installable desktop programs are simple software applications that are installed on the computer. Whenever you go online, they check the RSS feeds for blogs you are subscribed to and display the new posts into the reader on your computer. Feed Demon (Windows) and NetNewsWire (Mac OS X) are popular application-based feed readers.

If you prefer to use an online service to track and manage your feeds, then a web-based feed reader is the one for you. It works in a web browser to collect all the blogs to which you are subscribed to in one place online. Any upgrade or new features are added automatically. What is more, you can check feeds from any computer. Google Reader is one fine example of a web-based feed reader.

Google Reader - Fresh Content at your Doorstep

As part of Google’s grand vision to bring together personalized web content to make information more relevant to users, it has launched its online feed reader application, Google Reader Beta. This brings Google closer to becoming a one-stop portal for your e-mail, hand-picked news and other information.

Google Reader is a web-based feed reader which aggregates feeds from blogs. It is capable of reading RSS and Atom feeds. It has a clean and easy interface that allows you to manage which content you have read, save them, organize them and categorize them for future reference.

Instead of regularly visiting individual blogs for updates, Google Reader will do the job for you. Google Reader will keep you updated about all the online information you are interested in. They can be news blogs or even your friends’ blogs.

To avail of this service, you must have a Google account. If you have a registered account with Gmail, you can use your username and password to sign in to Google Reader. If you don’t have a Google Account, you can access the reader by logging on to http://www.google.com/reader. To enjoy Google Reader’s amazing features, make sure you are using either one of these browsers - IE 6. Firefox 1.0+, Safari 1.3+, Netscape 7.2+ and 1.7+.

Google Reader Cool Features - A Quick Run Down

Google Reader is a complete feed reader. It also adheres to Google’s trademark simple, easy-to-use design principle. The neat layout of Google Reader makes it easy to search for and scroll through feeds. Content is organized into four sections- Home Page, Your Subscriptions, Read Items and Starred.

To search for feeds, you can use the search box at the upper left top of the screen. Finding content is easy, just type a specific publication, name, author, or topic and click “search for new content” and Google Reader will retrieve up to ten results. You can then subscribe by clicking the subscribe button adjacent to each search result. Google Reader will monitor the blog for updates and add them to your reading list. Google Reader has two panes, the left displays the reading list and the feeds you subscribe to and a preview pane on the right that allows you to read the full feed content.

Content can be displayed by date or automatic sorting which prioritizes content based on relevance to you. You can choose whether or not you like content you’ve already read to remain in your reading list. However, you can still view read items not in your reading list by clicking on the “Read Items” button at the top of the Home Page. Google Reader allows you to retrieve a listing of read items. You might want to look through the last 50 items to come up with trends or enable you to complete a search.

As mentioned earlier, when you find content you want to read on a regular basis, you can subscribe to it and Google Reader will monitor that blog for updates and add them to your reading list. You can also use the “Edit Subscriptions” link to edit or add to your subscription list. The subscription link displays a user’s current, past and deleted subscriptions. It allows you to view details such as dates and specific tags used. Current subscriptions can be found in the reading list.

You may also add tags or labels to feeds you’ve read that are somewhat connected. Feeds about computers may be tagged “computers”, “electronics”, “information technology”. Similarly, you can also label an item with a star. These starred items are presented as a list of entries with feed URL, tags, published and updated periods included. Google Reader treats starred items as a special type of tag. Moreover, if you use the tagging/labeling feature of Google Reader, you can share them.

Google Reader allows you to share what you read with friends. You can send a list to your starred items in Google Reader. Anyone who clicks on this link is taken to a public version of Google Reader (no log-in required) that displays the content with your shared label. If you have a Gmail account, you can click the “Send Email” button to automatically compose an e-mail to go with the link. Another way you can share is to put a clip on your blog with fresh content from your reading list. A clip is a condensed list of current headlines from contents with a specific label that can be posted on a blog. Any visitor can then view the latest headlines from a label you are sharing.

Another cool feature of Google Reader is the keyboard shortcuts. They save time by helping you scan your reading list without the hassle of moving your hand back and forth between the keyboard and the mouse. Navigation becomes much easier.

Give the Google Reader a test drive and experience for yourself how easy it is to manage content overload from the blogosphere.

TurboCharge Your Site With Article Writing

Writing articles related to your site’s topic and syndicating
these articles all over the web is a very effective way of
marketing your site. This simple, yet effective marketing
strategy will deliver targeted visitors, increase your rankings
and boost your sales.

In essence, article writing will ‘TurboCharge’ your site!

Although it sounds more like a catch-phrase from a marketer’s
hype-fest, its the most appropriate phrase to describe the
effect article writing will have on your web site. It perfectly
sums up the major benefits of article marketing.

Article writing will quickly:

* boost one-way links to your site * help you brand your name or
site * help sell or pre-sell your products * bring in plenty of
targeted traffic * give you and your site more creditability

The effects can sometimes be jarring…

One minute, your site is humming along at its regular pace, then
suddenly, you check your web logs and your stats has doubled or
even tripled. There is a massive flood of visitors coming to
your site. Sometimes, it may only be one site which picks up
your article and features it in their ezine, bringing in
targeted visitors to your site. Other times, it may be many
sites and ezines displaying your articles, causing a large
influx of guests to your site.

All of the above has happened to me!

First, some background, I had heard other marketers sing the
praises of article writing for so long I decided to do a
test-run and see the proof for myself. Writing over 30 articles
since January of this year, I kept track of my results over this
six month period - to view these articles and find out where
some of them ended up, just google my name “TITUS HOSKINS”.

Finding and researching material for articles was not a problem.
Online forums, subscribers’ questions, and my own marketing
tasks were a great source of ideas. Compiling and writing
original articles that would stand out from the crowd was the
hard part.

Here are some pointers that I learned about article writing that
may also help you:

Find the Right Title - Choosing the right title will make or
break your article, keep it short and put the main benefit of
your article in your title, i.e. what will readers actually
acquire from reading your article?

Keep Your Article Short and Concise - If you want your article
to be pick up by ezines and placed on sites, keep it short
(300-1200 Words) and to the point. I find articles in the 700 -
900 word range do very well, longer articles less so.

Do A Spell and Grammar Check - Use a spell-checker or
WordPerfect to check your articles. I also use Google as my
proof reader. Not sure of a word or phrase, just Google it!

Resource Box - Like the title, you must point out the benefits
of clicking your links in your resource box which is displayed
at the end of your article. Offering a free ecourse or ebook I
found will improve your ‘click thru rate’. Newsletter
subscriptions also works. If you’re keyword marketing, place
your keyword or phrase in the anchor text of your resource box
links. Google will reward you handsomely for this simple little
detail. So will the other search engines.

Be Unique - Find your own voice. Be distinctive. Make yourself
and your site stand out. But don’t go overboard, writing
concise, informative and helpful articles will bring enough
interest and attention to your site. Narrowing and focusing in
on one subject area will eventually make you an expert on that
topic or subject.

Syndicating your Articles - Online article directories are very
good for this. Listed below are the major ones I use to get my
articles ‘out there’.

www.goarticles.com www.ezinearticles.com www.ideamarketers.com
www.articleally.com www.articlemarketer.com

Simple tracking tips, if you want to check the performance of
difference article directories - just make a minor change in
your article as you place it in each directory. Then as your
article is spread around the web - you can check its source. To
find out just how far your articles have traveled, just place
your article’s title between quotation marks and Google
it…like this: “TurboCharge Your
Site With Article Writing”

My experiences with article writing were very beneficial to me.
I was a little surprised at the high quality sites picking up
and displaying my articles: addme, sitepronews, thetechzone,
bonafidereviews, wwwcoder, buzzle, icemelon, devshed… and many
more.

It has tripled my site’s links since January, Google indexed my
site and started sending significant traffic my way. My traffic
according to Alexa, is under 50,000 many weeks - my site even
made it into the top 15,000 for a very short while. Those spikes
in traffic also means more subscribers and more sales. I
recently had over 200 subscribers to my ezine in one day - my
site normally receives around 5-10 new subscribers each day.

I also found more people ‘bookmarked’ my site - resulting in
more long term targeted traffic. My affiliate sales have
increased, and since my page views are up, my Google Adsense
earnings have also increased. I also believe article writing has
helped in branding my site and also giving myself more
creditability.

In fact, my results have been so positive, I feel a ‘disclaimer’
coming on! Your results will vary according to your skill,
effort and resources but article marketing is one of the best
free marketing strategies you will ever have at your disposal.
If you try only one new marketing technique this year, make it
article writing.

So go ahead, give your site the boost it deserves, ‘TurboCharge’
it with some of your best writing and experience the effects for
yourself. Buckle up and both hands on the wheel!

Why Isn’t Your Blog Using These Techniques To Earn Money?

A lot of bloggers are blogging free. There isn’t any point in driving traffic to your blog without having a way to profit from all that traffic. You’ve taken time to research and develop keywords, plan your blog posts and set up your blog, now you need to add moneymaking elements to your blog.

There are a few basic ways to profit from a blog, or any web site for that matter. Banner ads are displayed on the borders of a web page. Each time your page is viewed with the banner ad, you are paid. Normally a banner ad program is paid out at a certain rate per 1000 visitors. Although banner ads are popular on many types of websites, there are other more effective means of monitizing your blog. The following technique normally pays better rates than banner ads, and is more worth your time.

A more effective means of gaining income from a blog is through pay-per click ads. You get paid each time a visitor clicks on an ad displayed on your page. Google Adsense is the most popular pay-per-click ad provider. Google has the largest inventory of ads and also pay the most per click. Also, Adsense ads are targeted toward the content that appears on the website. For example, if your blog focuses on small business software, the Adsense ads will be for small business software. The content of the blog determines the ads that appear. This has a major advantage. Because the ads are related to what you reader is reading about, they are more likely to click on the ads, which means that the ads can be very profitable for you.

It is relatively simple to sign up for Google Adsense. Since Blogger.com was taken over by Google, they have started to accept accounts from blog owners rather quickly. If you use Blogger, inserting Google Adsense is extremely simple. It is recommended that you only apply for Adsense after you have at least 500 words posted on your Blog.

Read the “programs policy” section of Adsense carefully, once you’ve set up your account. There are a few things that can get your Adsense account shut down, and Adsense is such a good source of income it would be hard to replace it with something else.

Once you’ve placed the Adsense ads into your blog it will take about 48 hours until the relevant ads appear. After this period of time, if you notice that the ads that are appearing are not relevant to your content you’ll need to do some keyword optimization. Look at your blog posts and titles through the eyes of a search engine spider. Are you using your keywords effectively? How many times do you main keywords appear? Try adding your main keywords at least once per paragraph and make sure to use them in the title of your blog posts as well. This will help increase the relevancy of your ads, which will lead to more clicks and more profits for you.

Blogging is a great way to make money on the internet.

How to Promote your Online Home Business Opportunity Using your Signature

Ways To Use Your Author Resource Box or Signature:

The most powerful ways to use your signature to promote your online home business opportunity are in the Author`s Resource Box or Bio Box as well as the Author`s Profile page when you write articles and submit them to the article directories and in your signature when posting in Forums.

By setting up your signature correctly you can tell the reader a little about yourself as well as anchor your keywords and the url of your website, thereby creating back-links to your website. This is all part of optimizing your articles for the keywords you have selected. Ideally you should write articles based on the theme of your website and place your keywords in the title of the article, the body and in the resource box.

Author`s Resource or Bio Box:

The rules pertaining to the AuthorĂ¢??s Resource Box differ, so be sure to check the Article Directories` Submission Guidelines to establish how many links you are allowed to put in the Resource Box. Most article directories accept html and three links, so here is an example of how to create a signature when you submit your article to the article directories that accept html:

Your Name (first and last) and a few words about yourself. You can find more information on <a href=”http://www your url.com”>Add your own keywords here</a> and <a href=”http://www your url.com”>Add more keywords here</a> by visiting <a href=”http://www.your url.com”>Your own website url</a>

By creating back-links to your website from the article directories via your published article will not only increase the placement of your article in the search engines but will help your website gain a higher placement too, especially if you are submitting to article directories with a high Google page rank. It is far easier to get your own article on the first page of Google than it is your website, if you choose and use your keywords correctly. So if your article is really interesting and informative and holds the readers` attention to the end, there is a great chance that they will click through to your website from the Author`s Resource Box to find out more about what you have to offer.

Bear in mind that once you submit your article to an article directory, it in turn syndicates your article to other article directories and the back-links to your website are increasing all the time which will promote your online home business opportunity to a higher position in the search engine results.

Author`s Profile or Bio Page:

Some article directories give you the option to complete an Author`s Profile Page, which is like a large Resource Box. This gives you the great opportunity to write quite a lot of detail about yourself and your online home business opportunity as well as being able to anchor a lot of your keywords and the different urls of your website. This profile page link is placed on each of your article pages, so there is a good chance that if the readers find your article informative and interesting they will click through to your profile page to find out more about you and your online home business opportunity.

Forum Signature:

In Forums you also have the opportunity to set up your signature, although the code is normally different to that of the article directories, but you can find instructions for setting up your signature under the FAQ (frequently asked questions) Section in the forum. The large forums are frequently crawled by the search engines so when you start a new topic or make a post in a forum your signature will be providing back-links and advertising your online home business opportunity automatically.

The Benefits Of Fully Utilizing Your Signature:

The article directories get crawled by the search engines often so by submitting articles on a regular basis will ensure that the search engine finds your back-link and in turn will crawl your website regularly too.

If your website already appears on the first page of Google for certain keywords, and you write an article optimized with the same keywords, it will be no time at all before you will occupy at least two slots on the first page of Google.

You can go one step further to achieve absolutely magical results. Instead of submitting the same article to a few directories, take that article and change the title and body of the article around a bit and optimize it for different keywords that your website receives high placement for and submit a different version of your article to different directories. Be sure to redo your signature with the new keywords. In other words you will be submitting more unique articles to the directories thereby supplying fresh content. You could then see different versions of your article from different article directories all appearing on page one of Google along with your website!

Although the effects of article marketing take a while to kick-in before you start seeing the results of free organic traffic to your website, once you start submitting articles regularly and consistently you will be gaining valuable, free and targeted traffic to your online home business opportunity website.

Articles spread far and wide very quickly on the internet and stay around for years, resulting in a very solid and rewarding method to promote your online home business opportunity.

A Simple Secret To Seducing The Search Engines

In the Internet Marketing community, “traffic” and search engine
mastery are hot topics these days…

People will do almost ANYTHING just to get their site indexed by
Google faster… to boost their Page Rank quicker… to drive
more traffic immediately… and to get a ton of incoming links
to their website right away…

Yes, even if it involves handing over $137 for the latest
push-button traffic software or search engine trick.

Why all the fuss?

In this article, I’m going to reveal to you a simple, no cost
way to make the search engines crawl all over your website like
ants on a melted popsicle.

PLUS… you will start to get laser-targeted traffic and boost
your search engine rankings almost instantly. Not to mention,
you’ll have (at least) 100 quality links back to your website
within a week.

And this doesn’t involve any SEO hocus-pocus, buying into some
new “killer” traffic booster software, or trying out the latest
scheme to fool Google, Yahoo, or MSN.

Nope. This stuff is 100% legit, above-board, and has already
worked for years.

Let me give you a quick example. Recently I created a little
“test” website.

The search engines didn’t know about it. It had no incoming
links. No traffic. No SE rankings…ZIP!

Fast forward 7 days… My website was indexed by Google, Yahoo
and MSN, it got well over 200 incoming links and started to
generate traffic… shortly thereafter, Google granted my site a
Page Rank 3.

Again, this did not cost a penny, just a few hours of my time. I
created a play-by-play video that shows the website and how I
did it (see the weblink below).

Here’s another example: An “average guy” decided to try this
same strategy. He now has #1-#8 rankings on all the major search
engines. You can listen to him explain how de did it during a
recent audio interview:

http://wetrack.it/eza/af.cgi?aid=1583&ent=28

(Note: After you click above, look under the “June 20th” post
and click the MP3 audio button and video button on the site)

So, how can you get these same kind of results?

I wish I could make this sound more complicated but, all that
you need to do is simply submit one article to a handful of
Article Directories.

Writing and submitting articles has long been a proven,
time-tested strategy for increasing traffic, subscribers and
sales.

But now in 2005, articles have re-emerged in a BIG way, thanks
to recent information leaked by Google within their US Patent
Application 20050071741.

We now know that quality content and incoming links are
essential (now, more than ever) to the survival of your websites
within the search engines.

Bottom line. You need to start creating and submitting articles
to get all the benefits I just outlined above.

In fact, Google is practically telling you to do so!

But, where do you start? Where should you submit your articles?

Here’s a blueprint that outlines the 7 keys to writing
successful articles.

Follow these 7 keys and you are guaranteed to get more traffic,
more incoming links and higher search engine rankings and page
rank, by simply distributing your articles across the Internet.

Let’s get started.

Key #1: Choose a HOT Topic

You’ll need to do a little research on this one. If you are
already familiar with the target market for your article, this
should come easy. Research, spy, observe. Do whatever it takes
to understand your target market. What issues are hot? What
topics currently appear within top ezines, messageboards,
ebooks? What keywords are they using to search online?

It’s also a good idea to frequently visit article directories
and content sites. These sites contain current articles on a
variety of popular topics. Often, you can view the most popular
article topics (or clicks) as well.

Here’s a short list of article directories:

http://www.ezinearticles.com http://www.certificate.net/wwio
http://www.ideamarketers.com http://www.goarticles.com
http://www.netterweb.com http://www.jogena.com

Key #2: Choose a “Magnetic” Title

Magnetic title? That’s right. Your article title is your
headline. If it doesn’t pull the reader into the article,
nothing will. Just think … what if I called this article:

“Get More Traffic In The Search Engines”, “Easy Search Engine
Tips”, or “Free Traffic Generation Strategies”.

BLAH! See what I mean? These don’t pack much “punch”, do they?

Your title is just like a classified ad. Look at it this way. If
your article title is crowded on a webpage with 100 others, what
will make it jump off the page?

Key #3: Use The AIDA Principle

Attention Interest Desire Action

This universal formula applies to your articles as well. Once
you’ve enticed your reader to read your article (via a great
title), you need to keep them reading.

The first paragraph of your article is critical. If it’s dull,
boring and lifeless, your reader will surely bail out. You must
keep their interest right from the start. Try using short
paragraphs, sentences and words. This will keep the tempo upbeat
and make your article much easier to read (or skim, as most do
online).

Key #4: Create Several Sub-Headings

To better organize your thoughts, divide your article into
sub-headings. At times, writing a 500-700 word article can seem
insurmountable. Sub-headings make things easier. Instead of
tackling the entire article at once, try writing one paragraph
at a time.

Key #5: “Close The Sale” With A Resource Box

One of the worst things you can do is to leave your reader
hanging. They’ve just read your great article, now what? A
resource box appears at the very end of your article. It’s the
last line that your reader sees. It’s your chance to set the
next step.

Make sure that your resource box is compelling. Make the reader
jump over to your website, sign up for your ezine, download your
latest ebook, claim their free gift — get creative!

Also, the resource box allows you to include a direct link back
to your website. Sit back and watch your link popularity soar!

Key #6: Poofread Your Work

Did you catch that? It should have read, “Proofread”. Nothing
hollers out amateur, newbie, or just plain unprofessional than
an article filled with typos and bad grammar. If you don’t have
an English major in the family, hire a proofreader. Their rates
are reasonable and they can save you from damaging your
reputation online.

Key #7 - Promote, promote, promote

Let’s make one thing clear. Without key #7, keys 1-6 are a waste
of time. Bottom line, no one will read your article if you keep
it stored on a floppy disk in your desk.

You’ve got to promote it!

How can you promote your article? There are close to 90 article
directories, article banks, free content sites, article
announcement lists, and article syndication services out there.
And the best part is … 95% of them are FREE!

Plus, there are thousands of ezines, websites and blogs that are
looking for article submissions. Develop a list of contacts in
your target market. Next, e-mail each ezine publisher, blog
owner, or webmaster a copy of your latest article. There are
countless stories of individuals who have succeeded using this
exact same approach.

Wouldn’t you like to get your next article picked up by an ezine
with 32,000 subscribers or have 8,000 websites visitors view
your article tomorrow

Is there an RSS Reader for Google Chrome?
