Dry walling a home is not an easy task, but with the right tips and hints it is a job that you can do without the help of a professional. First of all, get the right tools, such as a putty knife, a tray, sandpaper, joint putty, a scraper, a hammer, paint, thinner, patches, plaster, etc. Depending on the size of the room, you may need more items.

You need the sandpaper because the first step in dry walling is to sand down the walls to remove any lumpy areas. Sand until you are down to clear white, then wipe down the walls to remove any dust and sand.

If there are any holes in the wall, you will have to fill them with plaster. Use the putty trowel and the scraper to apply joint filler; larger holes may require a patch and filler. This may have to be done in layers, letting the previous filler dry and sanding between layers.

Make sure the wall has been sanded, smoothed out and then washed down, to make sure all dust is removed. Then the wall has to be thoroughly dry before the dry walling can be done. Make sure you follow each step carefully and do not move onto the next step until you have a clean, dry, smooth wall.

Once the wall has been dry walled, you can paint. Choosing the right paint and brushes will also make this job easier. Paint all of the bases and edges before you roll the middle parts. Make sure the paint is thoroughly dry and then touch up where necessary. Make sure this is dry before you put the furniture back and hang curtains.

As you can see, this is not a difficult job, it just takes time to do it right.

If the walls in your home are really deteriorated, dry walling and painting may not be the solution. You don’t want to cover up seriously damaged walls with a bit of plaster that is just outer dressing. You may have to look into more permanent solutions such as new lining and covering, etc.

But if you can do a repair, rather than entirely rebuilding a wall, a little plaster and the right tools and materials can solve your problems. But if the area is seriously rotted, you may need to consider hiring a professional to do the repair.

If you see that you are starting to have problems with the walls, do your repairs now instead of waiting until the problem becomes so bad that you do need a professional to come in. Repairs are a lot cheaper than a complete replacement.

If you apply Spackle to a worn or busted area, sand the area, and then use a scraper to remove any peeling plaster, paint of loose plaster. When the Spackle is dry, sand again and add a second coat to cover the damaged area. Once again, sand and prime the area you just patched and you are ready to paint.

Carpet tiles have a great much advantage. They combine the warmth and style of a carpet with the longwearing, washable qualities of a tiled floor. This makes them practical and reasonably inexpensive option for any of the well-trafficked and accident-prone areas of your home.

Well know for their heavy-duty, durable qualities, carpet tiles are very easy to install as well as to replace, when necessary. They are available in a relatively limited range of colors, patterns, and sizes, and are constructed with either a cord or a pile finish. The tiles are square and made from polypropylene fibers bonded onto asphalt backing.

They are light to work with and easy to cut, so you need no special tools or experience to fit them. The only tile which require sticking down are the tile around the edge of the room and the vary first one you lay. Use double-sided tape to stop them from moving and to anchor the rest of the flooring; lay the remainder loose, without using tacks or adhesive.

Regular vacuuming picks up everyday dust and dirt. If there is a particularly stubborn spill or stain on an individual tile, lift it up to rinse it under the faucet. I have done engine rebuilding on several vehicles over the years and only thing is difficult. Everything else is just tedious. You have to pull the engine. I take it that you need to do this because you broke off teeth for the starter, perhaps? Most cars with big V-8's like the Delta 88, you pull engine and transmission as a unit. With some, you can unfasten the transmission from the engine block and bell housing and just pull the engine. Hit the local library and see if they have a maintenance manual. Chilton's publishes a huge number of aftermarket manuals for doing things like this. Not cheap, but worth the bucks since everything you need step by step for your exact model will be in there just like a recipe in a cookbook. Once you have the engine out, it becomes quite easy to unhook the transmission and expose the flywheel and flywheel fasteners. Again, not familiar with the 88, but you will see either a large single nut with a cotter pin which locks the nut or a plate with several small nuts much like the lugnuts on a wheel, also pinned with cotter pins. Either way, you have to unfasten the nut or nuts to expose the end of the crankshaft. You will see a metal key (a small rectangular metal block fitted in a slot cut in the shaft and a matching cut in the flywheel) which locks the flywheel to the crankshaft which serves to make sure the two rotate together as a unit. Sometimes, you can literally pull the flywheel off the end of the crank, but more likely, it will be stuck. You may have to use a torch to apply heat around the joint to cause it to expand a bit so you can pull it off, or you may be able to use a special tool called a gear puller to jack the flywheel off the crankshaft. Then, you reverse the procedure aand reassemble the works and drop the unit back into the engine compartment. This is just the basics on what you can expect you will have to do. It is a LOT of work. The last Olds I worked on was a Delta 88 from 1966. However, the mechanics of performing the job are essentially the same. Locate a Chilton's manual for your Delta 88 and go from there. You need something you can hold in your hands and study while you are looking at the engine so you can find your way through the maze of work you are going to have to do to accomplish the job. You will need a second pair of hands and a lift to get the engine out and back in. It is almost impossible to pull an engine by yourself and besides, it is dangerous to lift heavy awkward things. You would not want to be by yourself if your rigging breaks and the block falls on you. If you are going to go to all the work of pulling the engine to get to the flywheel, why not go just a little further and get the rings and valves done? It won't take much more time and effort to do a simple rebuild with the engine already out and on the ground, or better yet, on an engine stand. Again, the Chilton's will tell you what you have to do and what you should turn over to a shop to help you with. Buy yourself decent tools, like Craftsman or Snapon, tools guaranteed for life. Don't go cheap on tools. Cheapies break and you could get hurt. Visit any auto parts place to ask where you can get a Chilton's or other manual which covers the 88 in detail.
