Yes you have to pay fees to list your items and fees on the amount that it is sold for. Then you have to pay for your shipping fees. You can actually print your postage from your paypal account. You need to read all of the tutorials for selling before you list. Take time to study the shipping part. Go to usps.com to learn how to ship items. And make sure that you charge correctly. It takes a while to be able to list quickly. Try with one or two auctions. Take your time. It will be very time consuming at first but, trust me you will get faster.
If the phones are new and you are selling duplicates you may use your original pictures over and over. However, if they are used, you will have to take a picture and upload each time. My point is that new items list much faster and are easier to manage. Good Used items do sell well, just take longer. On any page on Ebay you may click the Site Map link at the top of the page. There is a wealth of info in there.
Good Luck and do not expect to learn everything over night it takes time. Also some people list there auctions starting at .99cents. I always start mine at the least I will take for the item. Happy Ebaying !!!!
References :
If you are running games mostly then there is no open source alternative. Or for the most part no closed source alternatives. For videos you can do a lot with Linux/Unix and the Mac -- especially the Mac` -- has a lot of codecs available. But for games you want Windows.
References :
All these questions can be answered by going ot the Ebay Site Map and read everything under "Seller's resources"

BAsically it works like this.
1) you as the seller are charged a small fee to LIST the item. This fee is based on the 'starting' price of the auction. YOU set this starting price. The lower the starting price, the lower your fee.

2) You are then charged a percentage (about 3%) of the total selling price at the end of the auction. This is in ADDITION to the listing price.

3) Once the auction ends, you take the selling price and add the shipping (if you know the total shipping weight, you can get the shipping costs at the post office website www.usps.gov or even at ups.com ) and send this total to the buyer. (Some sellers place the shipping amount in the auction so that buyers will pay quicker, but you should plan on always using the invoicing system on Ebay so that buyer is notified of the amount due.) Since the buyer is charged the shipping fee, you don't actually have any out of pocket expense for shipping (unless you make a mistake on figuring the shipping, so it pays to be accurate.)

4) Once the buyer has paid, you go to Paypal to collect your money and transfer it to your bank account. Paypal will take a small percentage of the total amount of the payment (including shipping, oddly enough)

5) You pack and ship the item.
References :
10 Years ebay seller. Combined feedback rating over 12,000

Unfortunately for you there are no good video editing tools in platforms other than OSX and MS Windows (not even in Linux) and online games (like video editing software) are almost non existent in platforms other than OSX and MS Windows.

You can try virtualization software but you may get poor performance, if it works at all.

I'd say stick with Windows.
References :
you are charged a small percent to sell and paypal gets a small percent. you charge the seller for shipping. my best advice is to not take bids from anyone out of the country because the shipping is very expensive and lots of times is unreliable and then they will come back and say they never recieved the item.
you need to go to ebay and read the help section if you do not understand how to sell, it is explained there.
